Being a Good Collaborator

Given the wide adoption of interface options such as Max for Live, and third party externals development, I will discuss collaboration with Max as a special kind of interface that draws on the founding musical metaphor of Max as a “meta-instrument.” The idea will be illustrated with examples of collaborative creative work. I will argue that a promising forward direction for music software requires that it retain its unique strengths and characteristics, while being maximally porous to fruitful collaboration with other (human and/or software) entities.
